Activity Students will create a Glogster posting illustrating a career as a medical laboratory technician (MLT) and present the poster to the class. The presentation will be ten minutes in length. The Glogster poster will include the following information:
Definition of a MLT
Areas of the laboratory in which a MLT can work along with at least five common tests performed in each area
Job outlook, salary, and career opportunities for a MLT
At least one video related to the MLT career
Educational requirements to become a MLT
The finished Glogster poster will incorporate at least one of each of the following:

Day 1: Students will spend day one researching on the internet what a MLT is, areas of the lab in which a MLT can work, and common tests performed in each area. Day 2: Students will spend day two researching on the internet job outlook, salary, and career opportunities for a MLT. Day 3: Students will spend day three finding a video on the internet related to the MLT career. Day 4: Students will spend day four researching educational requirements to become a MLT. Day 5: Students will spend ten minutes presenting their Glogster poster to the class. After each presentation, the class will participate in a discussion about each student's poster.
Notes to the Instructor: You will have to sign each student up for a Glogster account prior to introducing the program. Each student will have a unique username and password. Glogster allows free student accounts for up to 50 students.
It might be a good idea to assign each student a specific MLT career to focus on for Day 2 so that a variety of MLT careers are discussed. Some careers included could be working in a hospital lab, specialization in any of the core laboratory areas, research, education, sales, fertility clinics, or crime labs.
